Abstract

Collapse prevention is the primary goal of earthquake-resistant structural design; hence, the annual probability of collapse should be taken as a governing design parameter or performance indicator. Risk assessment can also be conducted on existing structures to inform whether the decision of seismic retrofitting is justified or not. One major challenge in collapse risk assessment is to reliably model the non-linear behaviour of structural response. This study features the rocking response behaviour of precast Reinforced Concrete (RC) columns based on results from previous field testing on parts of a real building and supplementary shake-table tests of rocking behaviours. Realistic estimates..
